BBQ cleaning guide

Keeping the BBQ clean after use is important for everyone who uses it. The cleaning kit lives under the sink in the BBQ area – it's there and it works. Here's what's in it and how to use it.

How to clean the BBQ

Splash water over the plate – enough to let you clean the surface without dousing it. Let the water bubble on the warm plate.

Scrape while warm – use the scraper to lift residue off the plate while it's still hot. True blue Aussies use beer for this step.

Let the plate cool – sprinkle Bar Keepers Friend powder over the surface, then scrub thoroughly with the scourer.

Rinse off the powder – splash with water to remove all the Bar Keepers Friend residue.

Final wipe – wipe over with a BBQ wipe for a clean finish.

Return the kit – put everything back in the cupboard under the sink so it's ready for the next person.
