Lighting guide

Your apartment's dimmer switches can be controlled and automated via the Wiser app. Setup can be a little finicky – this guide walks through both the standard setup and the firmware update process for older devices.

What you'll need

Download the Wiser app – available on the Apps page with direct iOS and Android links.

Setting up Wiser

1
Create an account in the Wiser app, then add a new home and any rooms you want to control.
2
Tap the + icon in the top-right corner and choose Iconic Module in the Without Hub section.
3
Follow the in-app instructions to add your devices.
4
Check for firmware updates – if an update is available the app will prompt you. If it says the firmware is incompatible, follow the steps below instead.
Linked switches: If you have multiple dimmer switches connected to the same lights, you only need to add one of them in the app.

Updating incompatible firmware

If your device is on very old firmware (around version 1.7.0) the Wiser app will flag it as incompatible. You'll need to use the Wiser Room app first to update it.

1
Download Wiser Room – available on iOS App Store and Amazon/Samsung Galaxy Store.
2
Tap Edit in the top-right, then Add new device and follow the instructions to add your switch.
3
Follow the firmware update prompt – this will run through a few completion cycles. Let it finish fully.
4
Switch to the Wiser app and add the device there. It will usually prompt a further firmware update – complete that too.
Note: Wiser Room is only needed for the firmware update step. Once updated, use the regular Wiser app for day-to-day control and automation.
